Realtors reach out to those left homeless by Katrina.


The National Association of Realtors The National Association of Realtors (NAR) is made up of residential and commercial realtors who are brokers, salespeople, property managers, appraisers, and counselors, and others working in the real estate industry.  and its Realtor members continue their efforts to provide relief for hurricane victims in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, raising $4,294,330 for the Realtors Relief Foundation to date, as of last week.

All donations are being given to the state Realtor associations in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama; these associations will then determine how to best distribute the funds.

Realtors have been providing relief in other ways, as well. HurricaneHousing.net, created by the Louisiana Realtors Association to help Katrina evacuees Resident or transient persons who have been ordered or authorized to move by competent authorities, and whose movement and accommodation are planned, organized and controlled by such authorities.  find housing, has been receiving approximately 100,000 hits every day. On an individual level, Realtors across the country have been volunteering at shelters, working to place families in temporary housing rent-free, and helping family and friends find each other on Internet community message boards. One Realtor, as a volunteer for People and Paws Search and Rescue, even helped save 202 people, seven dogs, and two cats.

Contributions to the Realtors Relief Foundation can be made online through the following secure site powered by NAR's e-commerce system: http://www.realtor.org/relief. Contributions are tax deductible That which may be taken away or subtracted. In taxation, an item that may be subtracted from gross income or adjusted gross income in determining taxable income (e.g., interest expenses, charitable contributions, certain taxes). .
