Really steamed.


I recently received a notice that it is time to renew my subscription to Commonweal com·mon·weal

. Although I have read your magazine since my college days, I am sad to say that I am letting my subscription lapse.

Your coverage of politics makes it clear that the Bush administration oppresses the poor, exports jobs, rapes the environment, tramples our liberties, turns back the clock on civil rights, alienates the international community by leading us into war under false pretenses False representations of material past or present facts, known by the wrongdoer to be false, and made with the intent to defraud a victim into passing title in property to the wrongdoer. , mismanages the economy, and commits other blunders and moral outrages too numerous to mention, all patently obvious to educated, open-minded people with an ounce of decency. This may come as a surprise, but among educated, open-minded people with an ounce of decency there are those who believe that on balance President George W. Bush has been good for the country and voted to reelect re·e·lect also re-e·lect

. Therefore I am leaving Commonweal for now. I will miss the biweekly ritual of opening the magazine and seeing how far I can read before I get really steamed.

We plead guilty to finding many of President Bush's policies and actions, especially the war in Iraq (we supported the war in Afghanistan), misguided or worse, and we've explained why in detail.  does not vindicate what we consider to be his failures in judgment. We're sorry that James Buford finds Commonweal lacking in analytical rigor rigor /rig·or/ (rig´er) [L.] chill; rigidity.

rigor mor´tis  the stiffening of a dead body accompanying depletion of adenosine triphosphate in the muscle fibers.
, but since he offers no argument for his support of Bush besides the notion that "on balance ... he has been good for the country," it is hard to respond analytically.

For what it's worth, we weren't too crazy about Kerry either.
