The movies are coming in a major way this holiday season. There are holiday-themed ones, action ones, funny ones, sad ones, happy ones and ones that fit multiple descriptions, such as "Black Christmas," about a sorority sorority: see fraternity.  massacre over winter break.

If you're not quite in the Christmas spirit yet, this weekend "Casino Royale" and "Happy Feet" look like good choices for very different reasons.

One's the new James Bond movie, taking it back to the old school, before Bond was saying, "The name's Bond, James Bond, James

 Bond" all over the globe. "Happy Feet" is about tap-dancing penguins.

What the two movies have in common is more emotional substance than many other films in their respective categories (action and animation). That, and both leading characters wear tuxedos.

For those in the mood for some interactive intrigue, Secret House is holding its "Art of Murder" event today and Saturday. Local artists and actors will portray world-famous artists during these dinner-theater events at the Veneta winery win·er·y

Local swing band the West Coast Rhythm Kings Rhythm King was an independent record label of the late 1980s and early 1990s that was run by Martin Heath. Initially specialising in dance, rap and house music (hip-house), Rhythm King expanded it's focus to encompass rock and indie bands such as The Sultans Of Ping FC.  is having a CD release party at Mac's tonight. It's the band's first CD in six years, and follows on the heels of an album from Kings drummer Tony Figoli's other band: Heavenly Oceans.

Why see the Kings live? They have a tap dancer. He's not a penguin, though.

And if you like swing music but want to see a strange lineup of Eugene bands, check out Cherry Poppin' Daddies with the Rock 'n' Roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music.  Soldiers, Schoolyard Heroes Schoolyard Heroes is a horror/punk rock band from Seattle, Washington, consisting of four members: Ryann Donnelly (lead vocals), Jonah Bergman (bassist, back-up vocals), Steve Bonnell (guitar), and Brian Turner (drummer). , Marcus Eaton and Grynch Saturday at the McDonald. Most of the bands are rock leaning on the hard side. Should be interesting.

Also in the "interesting" category is Springfield High's selection of "On Golden Pond On Golden Pond is a play by Ernest Thompson.

It focuses on aging couple Ethel and Norman Thayer, who spend each summer at their home on Golden Pond. This year they are visited by daughter Chelsea with her fiancé and his son in tow.
" for its fall theatrical. The story of an 80-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy and the lessons they learn from each other continues today and Saturday.
