The lesbian's list of admirers is about to grow. Reagon's latest mix, The Righteous Ones (September 14, Razor & Tie Records), which showcases her talents at their most sublime and invigorating in·vig·or·ate

, is generating the buzz of a breakout.

Reagon's approach to music is open enough, she says, that she can imagine jamming with acts as disparate as Sarah McLachlan, Led Zeppelin, and Joan Armatrading. "Yet you don't listen to the record and go, `Wow! This is so eclectic. I can't get my mind around it,'" she adds. Her list of early influences is equally surprising. "I was into Kiss, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden," says Reagon, 35. ? "All she did was buy me some old blues records so I would know where [hard rock] music came from," says Reagon of her mom, who sings with her group on Righteous.

For further proof that the warm, dreadlocked lady has a touch of the wild woman in her, you only have to gigs. "I never drink before shows because there's a chemical change in my body when I play," she says, laughing. "I don't want to mess up that high!" We'll buy her the next round of tea.

The gay Kid Congo Powers Kid Congo Powers is the stage name of Brian Tristan (born 1960, Los Angeles, California), an American rock guitarist and singer, best known as a member of The Gun Club, The Cramps, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.  (formerly of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the Cramps) teams up with ex-members of Boss Hog and Sonic Youth for a haunting mix of Southern gothic and dark delta blues. Those who fondly remember Team Dresch will he happy to know that Kaia Wilson and Melissa York have teamed up with bassist and fellow Dutch Alison Martlew to do what they do best--make gritty yet melodic tunes that sound suspiciously like anthems. * k.d. lang, Anywhere But Heresound track, Atlantic Records. It's been two long years since lang's last full-length release, Drag, and for now this mellow title tune to Susan Sarandon's next "woman's picture" will have to do, One new k,d, lang song is better than no new k.d. lang songs, Look for her performing the tune, the first single from the album, on Rosie O'Donnell's talk show around the time of its release. OCTOBER 12

* No. 2, No Memory, Chainsaw Records. Neil Gust, best known for the time he spent in the iconic Heatmiser (the band that bred Good Will Hunting's Oscar-nominated tunemeister Elliot Smith), now leads his latest troupe through exciting new terrain. Gust's new material proves that Smith wasn't the only brilliant songwriter in Heatmiser. OCTOBER 18

* Khan, Passport, Matador Records. One of the more witty and adventurous electronic artists you're likely to hear this year. This multimasked boy wonder's latest effort showcases his way with words (usually other people's words), not to mention loops and samples.
