Raytheon wins $567 million Army contract for chemical weapons destruction.


LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 1996--Raytheon Engineers & Constructors announced today that it has received a $567 million contract from the U.S. Army to construct and operate a chemical weapons destruction facility in Umatilla, Ore. The facility will be built at the Umatilla Army Depot in northeastern Oregon.

Under the contract, Raytheon will perform overall management of the project, as well as construction, equipment procurement The fancy word for "purchasing." Raytheon currently operates the Army's Johnston Atoll Johnston Atoll, atoll, 2.8 sq mi (7.25 sq km), central Pacific, c.700 nautical mi (1,300 km) SW of Honolulu, central Pacific, an uninc. territory of the United States. It consists of four islands and reefs.
