) has been awarded a contract by Boeing (NYSE:BA), the prime contractor, for work on the next-generation MILSATCOM MILSATCOM Military Satellite Communications  risk reduction and system definition program. The value to Raytheon is potentially worth $19.3 million over 27 months, with $12 million in options.

, Calif.) awarded one of two contracts to an industry team led by Boeing to conduct the risk reduction and system definition phase of the Transformational Communications SATCOM (SAT) Space Segment program, which extends through 2006. The Air Force plans to award a final contract in 2006.

"Raytheon's space systems expertise will complement the Boeing team as we develop a SAT Space Segment solution that eliminates communications bottlenecks and serves the time-sensitive needs of warfighters at all levels."

Raytheon will lead the definition, design, development, and integration of ground portions of the SAT Space Segment, which includes the SAT Satellite Operations Element and resource management for the CONUS Ground Gateway Element. The company will also support overall SAT Space Segment architecture definition and design. The work will be conducted in Aurora, Colo.
