Raytheon Wins $42.5 Million Extended Air Defense Testbed Contract To Support and Enhance Air Defense Simulation System.

Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) has been awarded a five-year contract by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command to provide support, maintenance and enhancements for the Extended Air Defense Testbed (EADTB) program. The basic effort is worth $42.5 million, with a $57.5 surge option. There is also a five-year $100 million extension option which, if exercised, would bring the total potential value of the contract to $200 million over 10 years.

The EADTB is an interactive tool that allows the user to define and simulate command, control, communications, computer, and intelligence systems; weapon systems and sensors in a synthetic environment for national and theater missile defense analyses. This real-time system provides a high degree of flexibility, allowing for simultaneous aggregation of high and low levels of detail in a single exercise.

The capabilities that differentiate the EADTB from other modeling systems include the ability to simulate real-world processes of sensors and thinkers using perceived data; an extensive verification and validation library; and the ability to clearly define weapon systems, communication models, environment models and scenarios.

Raytheon won the initial EADTB contract in 1989. Funded by the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, the EADTB system was developed for joint-service, international use, with the primary goal of serving the extended air defense community. Under the new contract, Raytheon will be responsible for user/customer support, operations and maintenance, and enhancement of current EADTB systems. Additionally, management and funding of EADTB user training has been transitioned from the government to Raytheon. Users access the system via individual workstations at locations throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Raytheon EADTB teammates include TRW, Boeing Company, Kottmann, Madison Research Company, McDaniel Enterprises, SAIC, SDA and SPARTA. This program is based in Huntsville, Ala., with support staff at locations worldwide.
