Raytheon Selects AEi Systems' "WCCA Enabler" -- Centerpiece of Worst Case Circuit Analysis Process.

LOS ANGELES -- Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) is a major business segment of Raytheon. Headquartered in El Segundo, California, SAS has a total employment of 12,000 and 2006 sales of US$ 4.3 billion. Jon Jones is the segment's President.  (SAS (1) (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, www.sas.com) A software company that specializes in data warehousing and decision support software based on the SAS System. Founded in 1976, SAS is one of the world's largest privately held software companies. See SAS System. ) has selected AEi Systems, a world-leader in power systems design and reliability analysis, to develop and teach a worst case circuit analysis workshop. As part of the workshop, AEi Systems customized its Worst Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA WCCA Washington Convention Center Authority (Washington, DC)
WCCA Wartime Civil Control Administration (Japanese American internment)
WCCA Whooping Crane Conservation Association
WCCA Wisconsin County Clerks Association
) materials for Raytheon's spacecraft, aerospace, and military-related engineering design teams and developed the "WCCA Enabler," a process document with guidelines for proper performance of a worst case circuit analysis.

The selection of AEi Systems and the development of the WCCA Enabler were the culmination of a multi-year review process by Raytheon. As a part of the project, AEi Systems delivered its proprietary 500-page WCCA Enabler to help Raytheon codify its WCCA process and to assist Raytheon's engineers and their ongoing WCCA efforts. AEi Systems' Enabler provides a detailed framework, model and format for Reliability and WCCA documentation and review that "enables" electrical engineers to deliver robust products on a consistent basis and to share their work effectively with other team members. The Enabler and associated workshop materials include the Process Guide to WCCA, a 200-page workbook with examples and full sample analyses, and over 200 pages of workshop slides and handouts.

"We are pleased that the WCCA Enabler and WCCA workshops have aided Raytheon's continuing analysis efforts and the delivery of the highest quality products to Raytheon's customers," said Charles Hymowitz, AEi Systems' CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. .

Worst Case Circuit Analysis is a cost-effective means of reviewing a design to determine with a high degree of confidence that potential defects and deficiencies have been identified and eliminated prior to and during the design, test and production phases and before actual delivery. Each WCCA is a quantitative assessment of hardware performance that accounts for manufacturing, environmental and aging effects on electronic circuits and devices.

Simply put, the performance of a WCCA is an integral part of a proper design process. When a WCCA is performed properly, the possibility of a human or monetary disaster is dramatically lessened. When this process is not followed, the results can be devastating.

"The typical cost of performing a rigorous WCCA is generally less than 1% of the program cost. The cost of not doing the WCCA can be 100% of the program cost and your reputation," Hymowitz added.
