Raytheon Electronic Systems provides air traffic control workstations for new Gardermoen Airport in Oslo, Norway.

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 1996--Raytheon Electronic Systems (RES) has been selected by Oslo Lufthavn A.S. to supply integrated controller workstations for the tower and ramp operations for the new $3 billion Gardermoen Airport, located approximately 24 miles north of Oslo, Norway.

The contract award, for $10.85 million, includes a Raytheon AutoTrac Air Traffic Control (ATC ATC Air Traffic Control

ATC Certified Athletic Trainer
ATC At the Center (Hartford, Maine retreat center)
ATC Applied Technology Council

) system, which handles airport control tower functions such as clearance delivery, taxiway taxiway: see airport.  control, de-icing management, and inbound/outbound control functions. It features 11 dual-headed high-brightness X-window workstations which will display and access all controller-required information in an integrated fashion. The system will be integrated with airport information and control systems, as well as with the recently commissioned Oslo Air Traffic Control Center (ATCC ATCC American Type Culture Collection, see there ).

The unique tower system features an electronic flight display system developed and prototyped by the Eurocontrol Research Center at Bretigny, France in conjunction with Luftfartsverket and Oslo Lufthavn A.S.

The system also contains its own full-featured radar data processing data processing or information processing, operations (e.g., handling, merging, sorting, and computing) performed upon data in accordance with strictly defined procedures, such as recording and summarizing the financial transactions of a  capability and is redundant for high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue. . The concept is extendible so that the Oslo Center can handle a number of integrated tower locations.

"This is a significant win for Raytheon Electronic Systems," said Michael M. Hoeffler, manager of transportation systems for RES. "It represents a natural extension of our AutoTrac product into the increasingly important airport control arena. We look forward to working with Oslo A.S. and Luftfartsverket in order to deliver a quality system to complement that of the recently opened Oslo ATCC.S
