Raytheon Awarded $10 Million Canadian Overhaul Contract.

) has been awarded a $10 million contract to provide overhaul, repair and upgrade services for the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND DND Drag and Drop

) at Raytheon facilities in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Under this 24-month contract, Raytheon Systems Company will provide overhauls and upgrades for eight of the Canadian Navy's 21 Phalanx phalanx, ancient Greek formation of infantry. The soldiers were arrayed in rows (8 or 16), with arms at the ready, making a solid block that could sweep bristling through the more dispersed ranks of the enemy.  Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWS CIWS Close-In Weapon System (US Navy)

). Raytheon will also provide a broad range of integrated logistics services designed to prolong the service life of the Phalanx CIWS. CIWS is a rapid-fire, computer-controlled radar and gun system used to defend combatant ships from missile attack. The Phalanx CIWS protects the ships of 21 navies worldwide, including the U.S. Navy.

Raytheon also provides repair and support of the radar and other avionics on the CF-18, the Canadian variant of the F/A-18 Hornet, at its Calgary facilities.
