Ray Prefontaine dies at age 85.

COOS BAY - Raymond George Prefontaine, father of the late University of Oregon track star Steve Prefontaine, died early Tuesday at the age of 85.

There will be a public service Wednesday at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Ave. A reception will follow at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 400 Highland Ave.

Steve Prefontaine, who attended Marshfield High School in Coos Bay before running track at Oregon, died in a car accident in Eugene in 1975 at the age of 24.
