Rating TV and film events around the globe.

This is the fourth time Video Age has turned its hand to compiling a list of important markets and festivals. Our reporters drew on their first-hand knowledge to describe most of the events, and trusted eyewitnesses filled us in on those events we haven't yet gotten to.

The costs comparison chart was compiled with information provided by the markets' organizers and with an eye to a typical medium-sized exhibiting company. When estimating the most variable costs (i.e., travel, shipping and advertising), we allowed for the fact that Europeans travel shorter distances to events but pay more per mile ($0.38 per mile in Europe, compared with $0.10 in the U.S.). Of course, varying dollar exchange rates change the picture, but not the value.
