Rappore Technologies Aligns With MaxStream to Provide Bluetooth Solution; Cooperative Development to Yield Bluetooth Module for OEMs.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2001

Rappore Technologies(TM), Inc., a provider of reliable and secure wirefree software and services, and MaxStream(TM), Inc., a leading developer of frequency hopping spread spectrum wireless data solutions, announced today a strategic alliance to provide the wireless computing industry a Bluetooth(TM) hardware/software solution. The solution combines Rappore's Bluetooth host protocol stack, Software Developers Kit (SDK (Software Developer's Kit) See developer's toolkit and Windows SDK.

) and the MaxStream BT-MOD(TM) Bluetooth module. The result of this alliance is a robust, reliable and low-cost Bluetooth module solution.

This Rappore/MaxStream Bluetooth solution allows OEMs and systems integrators to quickly and inexpensively integrate Bluetooth wireless functionality into a broad spectrum of embedded devices. Because the hardware and software elements are developed cooperatively to ensure compatibility, OEMs can drastically reduce the time-to-market for wireless devices. With Rappore's SDK, OEMs do not need extensive Bluetooth application experience to incorporate Bluetooth capabilities into their new and existing application programs.

"Rappore has quickly established themselves as a major provider of wireless protocol stack technologies, especially in the Bluetooth arena," said Brad Walters, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of MaxStream. "Through our alliance with Rappore, we are providing a unique solution that OEMs are demanding: a drop-in Bluetooth module and the corresponding Bluetooth stack with all of the integration work already completed. This alliance will help OEMs easily integrate Bluetooth wireless technology into their embedded devices, allowing for faster time-to-market."

"MaxStream is a leader in innovative wireless data modules," stated Dr. William (Bill) Hogan, President and CEO of Rappore Technologies. "Through our alliance, customers can have the best of both worlds -- a highly reliable Bluetooth protocol stack and an innovative Bluetooth module."

Rappore's Bluetooth Technology

Developed by a team of experienced wireless networking architects, Rappore's unique approach employs a "second generation" architecture that delivers a refined, reliable and configurable Bluetooth host protocol stack. This modular stack adheres to the Bluetooth 1.1 specification implementing the Host Controller Interface A host controller interface is a register level interface which allows a host controller for USB or FireWire to communicate with the operating system of a personal computer.  (HCI (Human Computer Interaction) Refers to the design and implementation of computer systems that people interact with. Rappore's SDK accelerates an OEM's speed to market by employing common interfaces that provide robust host stack layer control to facilitate additional application development.

MaxStream's Radio Technology

The MaxStream BT-MOD radio is a Bluetooth wireless module that is compact and simple to integrate. The small module design allows OEMs to inexpensively include wireless technology in products with minimal redesign the electronics layout. Because it is already approved by the FCC as a module, MaxStream modules save OEMs the cost and time involved in acquiring the FCC approval for their end products. The MaxStream modules specialize in providing wireless networking capabilities and low-power consumption. The MaxStream radios are useful for many embedded applications, including: point-of-sale, telemetry, portable hand-held products and numerous other embedded devices.

About Maxstream, Inc.

MaxStream, Inc., is a wireless technology company that provides FCC-approved wireless solutions for frequencies designated as license-free by the FCC. The MaxStream XStream series of frequency-hopping spread spectrum Frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) is a method of transmitting radio signals by rapidly switching a carrier among many frequency channels, using a pseudorandom sequence known to both transmitter and receiver.  transceiver radios provide OEMs with data modems that operate at long ranges (up to 1500 feet indoors and 10 miles out-of-doors) without the high costs of other wireless solutions. XStream transceiver modules utilize proprietary filtering technology developed by MaxStream to provide the modems with immunity to interference from nearby cell phones and pagers, providing OEMs with a robust, reliable wireless solution.
