Rapid-fire: six round infield drill.


An 18-minute practice tool that will maximize your daily softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  regimen regimen /reg·i·men/ (rej´i-men) a strictly regulated scheme of diet, exercise, or other activity designed to achieve certain ends.

As coaches of girls softball, we are always trying to maximize our practices - have each player leave practice a little better than she was when she started.

One of the best ways we have achieved this goal defensively is through a drill that provides our infielders with a lot of opportunities to work on situations they will encounter in every game.

The procedure is very simple. We have the infielders set up in their regular positions, and add an auxiliary auxiliary

We set a time limit, usually about three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. It is the twenty-second episode of the second season. OUR SIX ROUNDS ARE RUN OFF AS FOLLOWS:

Round 1: Coach A hits routine ground balls to the third baseman third baseman

Round 2: Coach A hits hot smashes to the third baseman, who throws to X, who returns the ball to the Coach B shagger.

Coach B hits balls to the second baseman who tosses to the shortstop for the double-play pivot and throw to first, with the ball being returned to the Coach B shagger.

Round 3: Coach A hits the ball to the third baseman, who throws to second for the double-play pivot and throw to the regular first baseman, who delivers the ball to the Coach A shagger.

Coach B hits balls to the shortstop deep in the hole, who throws to X, who sends the ball to the Coach B shagger.

Note: Be sure the SS sets up deep enough to avoid being hit by throws from 3B to 2B.

Round 4: Coach A hits high hoppers to the third baseman, who throws to the regular first baseman, who then sends the ball to the Coach A shagger.

Coach B throws or hits alternating alternating /al·ter·nat·ing/ (-nat?ing)
1. occurring in regular succession.

2. alternately direct and reversed.
 fly balls to 2B and SS, who throw to the Coach B shagger. Coach B should include fly balls behind lB and 3B as well as shallow fly balls to the outfielders.

ROUND 5, BUNT bunt: see smut.  DEFENSE WITH RUNNER ON 1B:

Option 1: Coach A rolls bunt to charging third baseman, who throws to shortstop covering second to nail the runner. He then returns ball to Shagger A. Coach B rolls ball to first baseman, who throws to second baseman covering first, who returns ball to Shagger B.

Option 2: Coach A rolls bunt to charging third baseman, who throws to second baseman covering first (sure out), who returns ball to Coach A shagger. Coach B rolls ball to charging first baseman, who throws to SS covering 2B, who returns ball to Coach B shagger.

ROUND 6, BUNT DEFENSE WITH RUNNER(S) ON 2ND OR 1ST & 2ND:

Option 1: Coach A rolls ball to charging third baseman, who throws to SS covering third (to get leading lady), who returns ball to Coach A shagger. Coach B rolls bunt to charging first baseman, who throws to second baseman covering first (sure out), who returns ball to Coach B shagger.

Option 2: Coach A rolls ball to charging third baseman who throws to second baseman covering first, who returns ball to Coach A shagger. Coach B rolls ball to charging first baseman who throws to SS covering third base, who returns ball to Coach B shagger.

Note: Coach A rolls balls close to home plate, while Coach B rolls ball deeper toward pitching circle to avoid having anyone hit by crossing throws.
