system

Rapid Logic, the industry-leading provider of intelligent, Internet-based device software products, today announced the release of RapidControl(tm) 3.1, the latest version of Rapid Logic's unified device management suite.

Rapid Logic's RapidControl product suite unifies all device management functions within a single, robust and integrated framework. This provides vendors the ability to build a variety of management layers quickly and systematically upgrade and customize user interfaces across multiple product releases and product lines. The RapidControl product family includes RapidControl for Web, RapidControl for Applets, RapidControl for CLI (1) (Call Level Interface) A database programming interface from the SQL Access Group (SAG), an SQL membership organization. SAG's CLI is an attempt to standardize the SQL language for database access. , and MIBway for RapidControl.

Major enhancements to RapidControl 3.1 include: advanced craft-style interface creation capabilities such as expanded command line editing, command aliasing, 'more' command support for output paging, basic scripting and advanced help system functionality, enhanced support for either bitmask-based group security levels or linear access levels, custom type support, dynamic runtime access to new SNMP MIB variables in master-sub agent settings, support for one-to-many device management applets and an improved file system. Significant enhancements to the RapidControl rapid integration "tool bus" accelerate the pace of command node/tree generation and customization, add plug in support for VisualCafe(tm) for Java, and enable increased tool menu and target system parameter customization. The new version also includes significantly improved documentation and online tutorials.

"We have worked closely with our customers in developing this new release, and they drove the enhancements in RapidControl 3.1," said Michael Edison, Rapid Logic`s RapidControl Product Director. "We have continued to listen to our customers and leverage our existing product to make improvements."

All of the new features and enhancements in RapidControl 3.1 have been done with the customer in mind. RapidControl for CLI has two new key features that give the customers new flexibility in customizing products for their requirements.

Key enhancements to RapidControl for CLI have focused on giving customers more opportunity to add customization and user defined options to their products. The improved help functionality in CLI now includes both node and parameter specific help as well as the ability to access user defined help functions. The new version of RapidControl for CLI has custom type support flexible enough for any data type such as enumerations and bounded integers. Customers have the ability to specify their own validation routine for any custom data type when they build their devices with RapidControl for CLI.

Other prominent enhancements of RapidControl 3.1 include:

RapidControl for Web has a improved file system that allows creation of multiple RAM images and use of multiple file systems such as Flash-based plus ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  plus NFS. Customers now have the ability to access new SNMP MIBs at runtime. Web pages can now access any existing MIBs whether they were known at compile time or not.

RapidControl for Applets has a new multiple connection broker that allows monitoring of several devices from a single web page or a single applet in real time.

MIBway for RapidControl includes support for bulk GETS, improving the performance of SNMP tables. MIBway is now as fast or faster than a native SNMP console for SNMP table access. RapidControl now supports Agent X for asynchronous Refers to events that are not synchronized, or coordinated, in time. The following are considered asynchronous operations. The interval between transmitting A and B is not the same as between B and C. The ability to initiate a transmission at either end.  SNMP MIB (1) (Management Information Base) The hierarchical database used by the simple network management protocol (SNMP) to describe the particular device being monitored. MIB objects are identified using ASN.1 syntax. See SNMP, RMON, OID and ASN.1.  access.

RapidControl 3.1 has a new bitmask-based group security model. Rather than having to implement a linear or hierarchical security model customers now have the choice to group people on a need to access basis.
