. Rand McNally's educational publishing division will distribute MindSparks history education programs: Excursions in History(TM) and History Unfolding.

Excursions In History is a new program from MindSparks that includes printed and visual primary-source materials with a cross-curricular approach to teaching the American revolution American Revolution, 1775–83, struggle by which the Thirteen Colonies on the Atlantic seaboard of North America won independence from Great Britain and became the United States. It is also called the American War of Independence.  in grades four through six. A document-based question (DBQ), also known as data-based question, is an essay or series of short-answer questions that is constructed by students using one's own knowledge combined with support
 (DBQs) and write effective history essays in U.S. and world history classes.

The Excursions In History: American Revolution program features a variety of materials that provide six weeks of instruction and help students of varying abilities examine historical events in context. Each program contains a set of ten student workbooks with exercises to teach students to interpret primary sources and write effective DBQ (DataBase for Quality) An RDBMS from Murphy Software, Southfield, MI, that runs on Windows clients and the AS/400. Specialized for quality management, it is used to promote ISO 9000 compliance.  essays. The programs have teacher's manuals that include objectives, teaching strategies and assessment guidelines.
