This production will delight animal lovers. Masson conducted an experiment to see if a variety of animals, among them those considered to be "natural" enemies, could become friendly if raised together.

He chose two chickens, a cat, a dog, a rabbit, and two hooded rats. All spent time in his home by the sea in New Zealand with his wife and two children. Masson's bond with animals no doubt reflects his spirituality, developed at an Indian ashram ashram
 or ashrama

. He and his wife are passionate vegetarians and animal rights advocates. Masson's anthropomorphism anthropomorphism (ăn'thrəpōmôr`fĭzəm) [Gr.,=having human form], in religion, conception of divinity as being in human form or having human characteristics.  may raise questions; but the story is meant to charm and it does. And the point is made that, under tender and patient guidance, a peaceable kingdom A Peaceable Kingdom was a television drama aired by CBS as part of its 1989 Fall lineup.

A Peaceable Kingdom starred Lindsay Wagner as the recently-hired managing director of the Los Angeles County Zoo, who was also recently widowed with three children.
 can be achieved among animals, even if there were some very close calls! It is not unexpected that Masson extends the analogy to a plea for world peace.
