Rain Brings Scattered Power Outages - LADWP Crews Work Round the Clock to Restore Power.


LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  -- Los Angeles Department of Water and Power The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is the largest municipal utility in the United States, serving 3.9 million residents in 2006. It was founded in 1902 to deliver water and electricity supplies to residents and businesses in Los Angeles.  (LADWP LADWP Los Angeles Department of Water and Power ) reports that nearly 20,000 customers lost electric service today due to rain-related power outages This is a list of famous wide-scale power outages. 1965

. Over 119 LADWP electric crew members are working around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

As of approximately 4:30 p.m., about 15,571 residential and commercial customers had lost power - about 1 ' % of the LADWP's 1.4 million power customers citywide. Power was restored earlier in the day for about 4,400 customers in some neighborhoods of Chatsworth, Montecito Heights, Van Nuys and Hollywood.

About 7,000 of those customers were affected by an outage that occurred at 12:50 p.m. and knocked out a power distributing station in the East Los Angeles East Los Angeles, uninc. city (1990 pop. 126,379), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a residential suburb of Los Angeles, in an industrial area. It has a large Mexican-American population. There is a performing arts center and a cultural center. A junior college is there.  area. The majority of those customers are expected to have power restored by 9 p.m.

LADWP crews are also tackling outages affecting customers in South Los Angeles South Los Angeles is the official name for a large geographic and cultural area lying to the southwest and southeast of downtown Los Angeles, California. The area was formerly called South Central Los Angeles, and is still sometimes called South Central. , and Hyde Park, as well as some neighborhoods of Hollywood, Mid-City, Downtown, and Valley Village.

Following are the communities that have been impacted by today's outages:

East Los Angeles - 6,985 customers

Hyde Park - 2,224 customers

South Los Angeles - 3,101 customers

South Central Los Angeles - 2,480 customers

LADWP has dispatched about 40 electric maintenance crews to make repairs and crews are working around the clock to restore power.

Outages caused by today's rainstorm began early this morning and have continued throughout the day. LADWP electric trouble dispatch received close to 1,500 customer calls today.
