on the restoration of the Chappaqua Railroad Station on the Metro-North line in New Castle in Westchester County.

The $800,000 project will improve both the interior and exterior of the station, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places This article is about the U.S. Register. For the National Register of Historic Places in Canada see Canadian Register of Historic Places.

The building will be restored to its original condition, with historical accurate flooring, windows, doors and finishes. The improvement is part of New Castle's downtown improvement effort and is designed to help attract additional commercial investment. Centrally located in the business district, the station is the link for the Metro-North Commuter Line and serves more than 2,000 riders daily.

The project will enhance the aesthetics of the building, and improve the quality of service and facilities for commuters with new ADA Ada, city, United States

compliant restrooms and a new food concession facility in the original baggage room. "At the end of the restoration, the station will appear much as it originally looked in 1901," said WASA project manager Carl Rothbart. "The restored station will serve the modern commuter's needs while remaining true to its historic roots."

Rothbart said WASA is completing a "historically sensitive restoration" of the station's exterior masonry, roofs, windows, structural systems, interior finishes, mechanical and electrical systems, lighting fixtures and ticket booth. WASA will also ensure that the station is ADA compliant. Rothbart said that the station exterior had survived years of use relatively intact, except for a few minor alterations to the finishes.

In researching original drawings and designs for the building, WASA learned that the station had originally been designed by Charles Reed This article is about the British politician. For the Pennsylvania Congressman, see Charles Manning Reed.

Sir Charles Reed MP FSA (1819 – March 25, 1881) was a British politician who served as Member of Parliament for Hackney and St Ives), Chairman
of Reed and Stem, a predecessor firm to WASA.

The restoration is set to be completed by the end of January 2005.
