 increase. On a "same railroad" basis, March 2005 carloads increased 4.8% to 113,100, from 107,968 in 2004. The 5,132 carload increase in 2005 was driven by bridge traffic which accounted for 2,885 of the increase. The increase in bridge traffic, which is lower margin business, was partially offset by lower agricultural and auto shipments. On a "same railroad" basis, shipments in ten out of fourteen commodity groups increased.

For the three months ended March 31, 2005, total carloads increased 9.4% to 329,879, from 301,541 in 2004. On a "same railroad" basis for the same period, carloads were 313,248, up 4.6% from 299,595 in 2004. "Same railroad" totals exclude carloads associated with railroads rail·road
