Raidtec Launches SNAZ R6 Network Attached Storage Filer.

Raidtec Corp. has released the SNAZ R6, 2U Rackmount filer as part of the company's new SNAZ family of products. It enables organizations to add high performance NAS (1) See network access server.

(2) (Network Attached Storage) A specialized file server that connects to the network. A NAS device contains a slimmed-down operating system and a file system and processes only I/O requests by supporting the popular

based storage now, and expand capacity and connectivity with an upgrade into a Fibre Channel SAN when ready. It plugs directly into an Ethemet switch on the Local Area Network (LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. ) and as a LAN File Server, it serves multi-protocol files to heterogeneous clients, with up to 430GB of local hot swap To pull out a component from a system and plug in a new one while the main power is still on. Also called "hot plug" and "hot insertion," hot swap is a feature of USB devices, allowing an external drive, network adapter or other peripheral to be plugged in without having to power down the  RAID protected storage. The capacity can be increased when desired by adding Raidtec's Fibre Channel SAN adaptor. Adding SAN connectivity allows capacity to scale to multiple terabytes.

SNAZ R6 is based on the Raidtec nEngine FlashLinux platform, and features six hot swap drives bays, optional Integrated Tape Drive, and LVD See LVDS.

Full RAID fault tolerant support of multiple RAID sets--each with its own unique RAID level (0, 1, 10, and 5), and local or global spare configuration-and dual 10/100 Ethernet Channels for network growth and load balancing are also featured.

The SNAZ R6 is now available with prices starting at $3,995. A fully populated 430GB system costs less than $.03 cents per megabyte. On site service is available throughout the USA and Europe.
