Ragupathy Veluswamy, MD, MMM, CPE, is medical director of quality and utilization at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood, N.J. In this newly developed position, he works with the case management and standards/performance improvement departments to strengthen and improve Kimball's quality and utilization processes. Veluswamy earned his master's degree in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University. He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Quality and Utilization Review Physicians. Previously, he was a partner with Lakewood Pediatric Associates for over 20 years and an active member of the Kimball-Dental Staff. He served in various physician leadership roles on the medical staff, including department of pediatrics chair, utilization management committee chair, member of the executive committee and secretary/treasurer of the medical-dental staff. In his role as the medical director of quality and utilization, he will be assisting physicians in complying with the rapidly changing standards of care and in understanding the regulatory/managed care requirements that are an unavoidable aspect of providing quality medicine in today's health care environment.
