Raging bull, or just bull?In his review of Martin Scorsese's The Departed ("Crowd-Pleaser," Nov. 6), Ross Douthat positions Goodfellas as the director's "career high." Yet Raging rag·ing adj. 1. Very active and unpredicatable; volatile: a raging debate; a raging fire. 2. Remarkable; extraordinary: a raging hit on prime-time TV. Bull is overlooked, despite its obvious virtues. Like Goodfellas, it stars Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci Joseph Frank Pesci (born February 9, 1943), commonly known as Joe Pesci, is an American Academy Award-winning actor, comedian and singer. Given to playing the master; imperious or domineering. 2. Fit to command. 3. Revealing mastery or skill; expert: a masterful technique; masterful moviemaking. uses black-and-white and still shots to give the film its wonderful uniqueness--something Goodfellas lacks.
