The theater grew out of a dance composition class taught by Robert Dunn, a musician who had studied with John in the 1960s. The exhibit, whose catalogue became a stunning book called Trisha Brown: Dance and Art in Dialogue 1961-2001, illuminates the elegantly radical nature of her work. Accompanying the exhibition are performances of Brown's earlier works by students from neighboring colleges.
