Races for Governor.


A Governor is the chief executive of a state. Most Governors serve a four-year term; others serve for two years. A Governor handles many duties of the state's government, such as appointing officials, preparing a budget, and supervising agencies.

Eleven states will elect Governors in this year's elections. ([dagger]) A state's voters elect the Governor of their home state. A Governor can attract national attention because the post often leads to a more-powerful political office. Four of the last five Presidents first served as Governor before getting elected e·lect
