Sales for the quarter zoomed to $110 million, up from $78 million in the year-earlier quarter. Profits were $670,000, up from a loss of $4.7 million a year earlier.

It's only the third quarter in the past 13 that Country Coach's parent, National RV Holdings of Perris, Calif., has posted a profit.

"Our focus in the first quarter, as it will be for the rest of 2004, had been to profitably increase production to match our demand," said Brad Albrechtson, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Country Coach in recent months has added about 200 workers at its Junction City factory, taking employment there to 1,332.

Aside from the Junction City factory, National RV has coach manufacturing facilities in Perris.

Revenues for the Country Coach subsidiary were $46.7 million, up from $25.2 million in the first quarter last year, the company said. That's a quarterly record for Country Coach, Albrechtson said.

The Junction City plant produces high-end diesel motor homes and bus conversions, while the California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  factory produces gasoline gasoline or petrol, light, volatile mixture of hydrocarbons for use in the internal-combustion engine and as an organic solvent, obtained primarily by fractional distillation and "cracking" of petroleum, but also obtained from natural gas, by  and diesel-powered motor homes.

National RV said it shipped wholesale 293 diesel motor homes in the first quarter, up from 237 units a year earlier. The company shipped wholesale 499 gasoline-powered RVs, up from 332 units a year earlier. Shipments of towables slipped from 390 in the first quarter last year to 315 in the latest quarter.

The company's profits were hindered by having to pay heavy overtime to its work force, and discount some older models, Albrechtson said.
