RUTH CROFT, 73, LONGTIME DAILY NEWS STAFF MEMBER.Byline: Holly Andres Staff Writer WOODLAND HILLS - A funeral will be held Thursday for former Daily News employee Ruth Croft, who died Thursday in Woodland Hills. She was 73. Croft, of Northridge, was hired in 1968 as a reporter for the predecessor of the Daily News in Van Nuys. She was an editor for the Neighbors community sections of the Daily News for many years. She also was an assistant city editor and an editor in the Features Department. Croft retired from the paper in December 1990. ``Ruth Croft was one of the first women to work at the Valley News and Green Sheet, now the Daily News. During her long career, she worked as a news reporter, feature writer, assistant city editor and community news editor. She was regarded by several copy editors as the finest pure writer in the newsroom,'' said Rick Quist, executive news editor at the Daily News. Croft was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . She graduated from Van Nuys High School Van Nuys High School (VNHS) established in 1914, is a high school in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, California, belonging to the Los Angeles Unified School District: District 2. and the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools.
