RUSSELL BACKS SMITH FOR PRIMARY BALLOT.

State Sen. Newton Russell, R-Glendale, passed over fellow GOP lawmaker Paula Boland on Thursday to endorse a former Pasadena school board member in the primary race to succeed him.
