RUSS THYRET NAMED CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF WARNER BROS. RECORDS INC.

NEW YORK, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Russ Thyret has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Warner Bros. Records Inc. He had been serving as vice chairman of Warner Bros. Records Inc.

The announcement was made by Michael Fuchs, chairman and CEO of Warner Music Group. The appointment is effective immediately and follows the departure of Danny Goldberg from the position. Goldberg is leaving to pursue other interests. Commenting on the appointment, Fuchs remarked, "Warner Bros. Records is a unique organization and Russ Thyret has been an integral part of the fabric at Warner Bros. for nearly three decades. Russ has been the power forward on this team, but has played every position on the Warner Bros. team as well. That in itself is so rare in the record business.

"More than that he individually symbolizes this quintessentially people/artist oriented company. During this time of unprecedented change, both for Warner Bros. Records and the music industry as a whole, the continuity and commitment exemplified by Russ Thyret are essential to the company's continued vitality. It's with great pleasure that I make this announcement, and we are looking forward to a new era of stability and growth for the company under Russ."

Remarked Thyret, "In light of the historic accomplishments of Warner Bros. Records, and the incredible legacy of its guiding lights, Mo Ostin and Lenny Waronker, I am humbled at the prospect of assuming this position. Any record company is only as good as its artists and staff, and here at Warner Bros. we have the best of both worlds. It is now time to dedicate ourselves to getting on with the business at which we can excel, and maintaining the leadership role we've held since virtually the inception of this remarkable institution."

Thyret began his Warner Bros. Records career in 1971 as Singles Sales Manager. In 1973 he was named Sales Manager and two years later became Vice President in the Sales Department. In 1976 Thyret became Vice President for the company, and in 1981 moved to the Marketing Department as Senior Vice President. In 1983 he became Senior Vice President of Marketing and Promotion. Prior to his 26-year tenure at Warner Bros. Records, Thyret was a sales person for the Los Angeles WEA Branch.
