 George Runner George C. Runner, Jr. (born March 25 1952 in Scotia, New York) is a Republican California State Senator, who represents the 17th Senate District, which includes portions of Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County and Ventura County.  has been named to a transition team that will develop GOP goals and strategy for the Legislature.

Runner, new GOP caucus leader Rod Pacheco Rod Pacheco (born 1959) is a U.S. Latino Republican politician. Currently the Riverside County, California District Attorney, he had served in the California State Assembly from 1996-2002. He served as Republican leader from November 5 1998-April 6 1999.  and five other Republican Assembly members will devise political and legislative strategies to deal with the Republican loss of five Assembly seats - down to 32 out of 80 - and the Governor's Office.

``Obviously, our concern now is to create a unified effort,'' Runner said in a telephone interview Friday from his Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  office. ``It's bad enough we got 32. It would be worse if our 32 were going different directions.''

William R. Leonard (born 1947) is a Republican U.S.
 of Rancho Cucamonga Rancho Cucamonga (răn`chō k'kəmäng`gə), city (1990 pop. 101,409), San Bernardino co., S Calif. . Leonard stepped down after his party lost the five seats in the Nov. 3 state election.

Runner, a former Lancaster mayor, remains vice chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee. He said the GOP's best chance of influencing state government policy remains in budgetary and financial matters.

Those require two-thirds votes by the Assembly, and Democrats - despite the Nov. 3 gains - are still six votes shy of that without Republican help, Runner said.

Runner said primary GOP goals for the coming year include reducing the size and scope of state government, reducing taxes on working families and improving California schools.
