RTN to Initiate World's First MPEG-4 AVC-Based Standard Definition Satellite TV Service with Island Media, NEOTION and Harmonic.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Advanced Compression Technology Enables Pari-Mutuel Direct-to-Home Satellite Network to Add Channels and Services

NEOTION, a technology leader developing products and services for the digital television market, and Harmonic Inc. (Nasdaq:HLIT), a leading provider of digital video, broadband optical networking and IP delivery systems, have been chosen by Island Media to enable its customer Racetrack Television Network (RTN) to migrate to MPEG-4-AVC. This is expected to result in the world's first MPEG-4 AVC-based standard definition (SD) satellite TV service. Using this powerful technology, RTN will be able to significantly increase its channel count and add new services, thereby growing its market potential.

RTN, an affiliate of Las Vegas, Nevada-based Roberts Communications Network, Inc., plans to expand to 60 the number of channels broadcast by satellite and add new services. This project, which is being made easier as a result of Harmonic's experience migrating other broadcast services to MPEG-4 AVC and the versatility of its DiviCom MV 100 encoding platform, will be completed by the end of the year. "RTN is reinforcing its leadership position in the at-home racetrack simulcast market by developing new services and complete racing content for its subscribers. NEOTION MPEG-4 modules will allow our customers to easily receive RTN MPEG-4 channels by simply inserting the TV module in the industry-standard slot of their satellite receivers.
