RTL sets record.


Germany's RTL (Register Transfer Level) A high-level hardware description language (HDL) for defining digital circuits. The circuits are described as a collection of registers, Boolean equations, control logic such as "if-then-else" statements as well as complex event sequences;  reports that 1996 was a very good year. For the first time since the company's inception in 1984, its annual turnover exceeded 3 billion marks (U.S.$1.8 billion). The turnover was 3.2 billion marks (U.S.$1.9 billion), a 12.1 percent increase over 1995. Net income rose to 2 billion marks (U.S.$1.2 billion), while profits were a record-breaking Adj. 1. record-breaking - surpassing any previously established record; "a record-breaking high jump"; "record-breaking crowds"
best - (superlative of `good') having the most positive qualities; "the best film of the year"; "the best solution"; "the best time for
 144.1 million marks (U.S.$86 million).

In addition to the advertising revenues, which RTL reports are the highest of any European European

emanating from or pertaining to Europe.

 TV station, the company was also a winner in market share. RTL's average share of 17 percent of all German viewers put it ahead of the other German stations. RTL also had a winning 19.3 percent share of German viewers in the 14-to-49 age group.

"The success of RTL remains the stable pole within a very nervous German TV market," said CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Helmut Thoma. The company attributes its success to the right balance of produced and acquired programming. Last year, it spent 550 million marks (U.S.$323 million) on acquired programming, much of it through output deals with Disney, Warner Bros BROS Brothers
