of this book is to provide specific intervention strategies for teachers to use for students who demonstrate specific deficits in various areas of reading. The areas they cover include phonemic awareness Phonemic Awareness is a subset of phonological awareness in which listeners are able to distinguish phonemes, the smallest units of sound that can differentiate meaning. For example, a listener with phonemic awareness can break the word "Cat" into three separate phonemes: /k/, /a/, , phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension and motivation. Each problem discussion follows an approach that identifies what the technique is, when to use it, its benefits, materials needed, implementation steps and curriculum-based measurement Curriculum-based measurement, or CBM, is an assessment method used in schools to monitor student progress by directly assessing basic academic skills in reading, spelling, writing, and mathematics.  used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. In many instances, the authors include instruments to be used in the implementation of the specific intervention.

We like this book for its ease of use, for its organization and for its consistent style in identifying and implementing individual interventions. We could see ourselves following their analytical format in discussing or describing problems occurring in learning domains outside of reading.
