RTD SUSPENDS ALL BUS SERVICE IN 'CURFEW AREA'
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE; SERVICE CONTINUES IN OTHER AREAS
LOS ANGELES, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Service on 26 RTD bus lines that normally serve the "curfew area" imposed by the Los Angeles Police Department in south central Los Angeles has been suspended until further notice, the district announced.
Nearly full service is running in the rest of RTD's normal service area including downtown Los Angeles, though riders should expect delays, said RTD General Manager Alan F. Pegg.
RTD also has deployed extra buses to serve the El Monte Busway in the San Gabriel Valley to assist riders of other bus lines that have opted not to travel to downtown Los Angeles.
To ensure the safety of riders and RTD employees, the district suspended all service at about 9 p.m. Wednesday. RTD started service again at about 3 a.m. Thursday in areas outside of the curfew area.
RTD's Metro Blue Line train service from Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles is running on a normal schedule.
The district is monitoring the situation in south Los Angeles closely, and will restore service to the area as soon as law enforcement agencies have restored order in the community, Pegg said.
