RSA Releases Channel Connectivity for IPDSPrint.

), providers of innovative digital document printing solutions for production, viewing and management, announced the availability of both the RSA Channel Server and RSA Channel Card for IPDSPrint.

RSA's IPDSPrint, the latest module of M.I.S. Print software, is a powerful transform software solution that emulates the functionality of an AFP/IPDS printer. IPDSPrint converts AFP/IPDS data streams for printing on any network production, midrange, or desktop printer.

The software is unique because it is the only software application that can run co-resident on the print controller of most production printers.

RSA offers greater flexibility to its customers when configuring their mainframe connectivity for IPDSPrint. When a TCP/IP TCP/IP

connection to the host mainframe is not desired or feasible, the RSA Channel Card and the RSA Channel Server are now available. RSA can configure the solution to receive the customer's IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data Stream) The native format built into IBM laser printers, which accepts fonts and formatted raster images. One of its major functions is its communications protocol that negotiates printer transfers from servers in the network that  data streams via IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Bus & Tag (Parallel) or ESCON (Enterprise Systems CONnection) An IBM S/390 fiber-optic channel that transfers 17 Mbytes/sec over distances up to 60 km depending on connection type. ESCON allows peripheral devices to be located across large campuses and metropolitan areas.  Channel.

The addition of this technology to M.I.S. Print's already substantial list of connectivity options is significant because Channel is the most common printer connectivity from IBM mainframes Following are the mainframe architectures used in IBM mainframes since the original System/360 introduced in 1964.

.

The best choice for a specific customer is dependent on a number of factors including: the number of printers enabled with IPDSPrint, location of the host mainframe, and the customer's network infrastructure.

The Channel Card offers direct 3835 (for 240dpi printer emulation) or 3900 (for 300dpi printer emulation) Channel emulation through a PCI card installed directly in the Sun print controller of most production printers, providing a direct Bus & Tag or ESCON connection from the mainframe to the printer.

This configuration eliminates the need for separate hardware between the host and the production printer and is the most cost-effective and reliable solution for customers with one printer. The RSA Channel Card can also be installed in a separate low cost Sun workstation, and act as a powerful Channel Server.

The RSA Channel Server can distribute mainframe print data to up to 24 different printers, including desktop and midrange printers that do not have a Sun print controller. This configuration is the most cost-effective solution for multiple printer installations.

An additional major advantage of RSA's Channel options is the ability to accept both AFP/IPDS and Xerox LCDS data streams concurrently. Customers with both types of data streams can complete their mainframe connectivity with one Channel solution.

RSA is an industry leader providing software solutions for digital document production, viewing and management since 1986. Solutions include print-on-demand software, web order and production software, networking and connectivity, database development and print transform software, including its award winning M.I.S. Print.

M.I.S. Print software converts LCDS and AFP/IPDS data streams, enabling customers to print mainframe applications on any network attached production, midrange or desktop printer. RSA's software solutions are sold by leaders in the industry such as Xerox Corporation (NYSE NYSE
