Creek was ready to give up swimming to learn to play the electric guitar and join a rock band after her freshman season at Royal High in 2001. The Highlanders senior has found fame and recognition with her new group. But it hasn't been in music. Instead, Creek has flourished as a goalie on the Royal girls' water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. While waiting to acquire a guitar, Creek was recruited to try water polo as an alternative to swimming, and it has been a good fit. Creek is Royal's single-season and career-leader in saves. She earned first-team All-Southern Section honors in helping the Highlanders reach the Division IV final, the furthest postseason venture in program history. Goalie was the natural position for the 5-foot-6 Creek, a breaststroke specialist who was named the most valuable player of this year's Irvine Tournament. The leg strength developed from swimming since age 4, and her ability to extend her arms from the breaststroke resulted in an easy transition to water polo. ``It was the position that I was best at,'' Creek said. ``I wouldn't have been able to do it without swimming. In the beginning, I didn't like as much as I do now. I didn't think I was going to keep playing and trying it and then I started liking it a lot more.'' Creek's younger sister Kacey, who will be a freshman at Royal next year, plans to participate in both swimming and water polo. For Brandy, strumming chords on an electric guitar seemed more interesting than swimming laps in a pool. ``I had done it for a very long time and I had always wanted to be on the Royal swim team,'' Creek said. ``After my freshman year, I think I lost my interest.''
