ROYAL TOURNAMENT: QUARTZ HILL CONTINUES ITS DRIVE FOR PERFECTION QUARTZ HILL 2, N. HOLLY. 1.

Byline: Matthew Kredell Staff Writer

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - The Quartz Hill boys' soccer team has cleared its final pre-league hurdle HURDLE, Eng. law. A species of sledge, used to draw traitors to execution.  and, apparently, the Rebels can be stopped now only if they trip over their own feet.

No. 2 Quartz Hill's 2-1 victory over No. 10 North Hollywood in the final of the Royal tournament Friday gives the Rebels a 15-0 record heading into Golden League play with their sights set on a perfect season.

``That's what I've been searching for all my years playing high school,'' said four-year starter Ian McClung. ``I want that one great season.''

McClung has the Rebels in position after allowing just two goals on penalty kicks during the tournament.

North Hollywood goalie Jorge Huerta was named the tournament's outstanding goaltender for single-handedly keeping the Huskies in the game with outstanding saves. His best was a lunging block of Nick Angelillo's shot far to the net's left corner in the first half. But Angelillo got his revenge in the opening minutes of the second half, scoring to the upper right side to give Quartz Hill a 2-0 lead.

``We could easily have had four or five if not for their goalkeeper For the close-in weapon system, see .

,'' Quartz Hill coach Andre Matalon said.

Two was enough thanks to a strong defense. Other than the penalty kick scored by Marcelo Ramos, North Hollywood (10-6-1) never got a good shot on goal.

``I didn't have to do much,'' McClung said. ``Nothing came through.''

``I think our preseason was really tough and I'm just glad to get through it perfect,'' Kiel said. ``Fifteen and zero is our confidence, not beating one team.''

We were 5-0 there and now we came out and made it to another final.''
