SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - The story of how Jeremy Sotomayor came to the Royal High of Simi Valley swim team starts, strangely enough, with Sotomayor riding his bicycle around town one afternoon in early February.

Two weeks after moving to the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. ''

One thing quickly led to another for the 18-year-old. Royal sophomore Juan Camero, born in Colombia, encouraged Sotomayor to enroll at the school and join the Highlanders team after swimming with him at CSA.

And only two months after he left behind his family in Lima, Peru, Sotomayor - who has aspirations of becoming a commercial pilot - won the 200-yard freestyle The code name for the MCE version of Windows. See Media Center Edition.  during Friday's dual meet against Hart of Newhall.

``He just showed up,'' Royal coach Steve Snyder said. ``That's all I know. He was just there.''

Little wonder that Sotomayor, who wants to parlay An open programming interface (API) to a service provider's network (the network operator), developed by the Parlay Group (www.parlay.org). The Highlanders suffered their first loss of the season Friday to Hart, 93-77, despite winning five races. McClure completed a difficult double by winning the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly back-to-back. Sotomayor took the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 51.33 seconds.

Sotomayor later was edged out in the 100 backstroke by Hart's Goran Bistric. But he finished the meet by swimming the third leg on Royal's victorious 400 freestyle relay. ``This is his first time (in the U.S.),'' Camero said. ``But he learns really, really, really quickly, especially English. He's always asking me what this is, what that is. He really wants to learn.''

On the girls' side, Hart won seven of 11 races en route to a 104-66 victory. Hayley Calams took first in the 50 and 100 freestyle and Shannon McCarthy - swimming against several CSA teammates on Royal - outdueled Jenny Modglin in the 100 backstroke, winning in 1:05.75.
