 ROYAL NAMED TO HCA BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- HCA - Hospital Corporation


of America (NYSE: HCA) today announced the election of Frank S. Royal, M.D. to its board of directors. Royal was also named a director of Hospital Corporation of America, the operating subsidiary.
 The announcement was made by Thomas F. Frist Jr., M.D., HCA chairman and chief executive officer, following the regular meeting of the board of directors on June 15.
 "We are very pleased to once again have such a distinguished physician as Dr. Royal on our board of directors," Frist said. "We believe his input will be valuable and pertinent to the company."
 Royal, 52, is in private practice in family medicine in Richmond, Va. He received his B.S. degree from Virginia Union University and did graduate work at Virginia State College. He received a medical degree from Meharry Medical College in 1968.
 In addition to serving previously on the HCA board from 1982 until 1989, Royal also is a director of Crestar Financial Corporation, Virginia Union University, Meharry Medical College, Best Products Company, Inc., and Chesapeake Corporation. He is also a member of the University of Richmond Board of Associates and the Richmond Community Hospital Board of Trustees.
 Active in numerous political and professional organizations, Royal is a member of the National Medical Association, the American Medical Association, Richmond Academy of Medicine, Richmond Academy of Family Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia and the Richmond Medical Society. He was formerly a member of the Virginia Governor's Advisory Committee on Medicare and Medicaid.
 HCA and its affiliates own and operate more than 120 hospitals with more than 22,500 beds in the United States.
