Two days later, Royal beat Saugus easily.

While that was going on, Ferguson's son, Travis, videotaped the Quartz Hill-Thousand Oaks match.

Guess which team has the advantage?

``You want to be prepared,'' Travis Ferguson said. ``We do it in league, we do in in the preseason, we do it in the postseason.''

Some coaches don't understand why. Saugus coach Bobbie Estes was surprised to see Ferguson tape her team's wild-card match. She, like everyone else, knew the Highlanders were that much better than her team.

But who can argue with results? The Highlanders (20-3) have won 10 straight Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. By contrast, Quartz Hill (13-2) won its first Golden League title this season and never had advanced past the first round until beating Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. ``You want to know why Royal wins every year?'' Travis Ferguson said. ``It's becausemy dad does these things "These Things" is an EP by She Wants Revenge, released in 2005 by Perfect Kiss, a subsidiary of Geffen Records. Music Video

Said Bob Ferguson: ``We prepare to make all kinds of adjustments, and you can't make the adjustments unless you know what the opponent will do.''

Quartz Hill coach Jason Peplinski said he would like to videotape videotape

He knows, for example, Royal's block is taller than what the Rebels have seen, so they addressed that in Monday's practice. Peplinski also prepared his team for Royal's setting style, which is quicker than what the Rebels usually see.

The Royal players also spend time watching the video, a job more associated with football players. But no one walks on the court surprised.

The Rebels have had a tremendous season, coming from behind to edge favored Littlerock for the title. In a season in which the entire league was up, Quartz Hill proved best.

But beating Thousand Oaks, the Marmonte League's third-place team, is one thing. Toppling Royal is something else.

``I know everyone picked Royal to win, and that's fine,'' Peplinski said. ``We just want to show we can play with them, win or lose.''
