SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Daniel Mosier walked to the Royal sideline sideline

, found an empty bench and stretched his arms out on both sides. He looked like he was about to kick back and watch a good movie. But he was the star of this show.

Mosier took a much-deserved break just before halftime after he already carried the ball 25 times and scored five touchdowns.

He was able to watch most of the second half from the bench, as Royal pounded Simi Valley 45-7 in front of an estimated crowd of 6,000 on Friday.

Mosier, Royal's star running back, finished with 31 carries for 238 yards and scored on runs of 73, 18, 18, 2 and 1 yards.

``This means a lot,'' Mosier said.

``We've been working so hard.''

Coach Gene Uebelhardt was doused with a bucket of water and said he was near tears. Uebelhardt praised Mosier and touted the way in which the Highlanders won league.

``We don't have any transfers and we proved you can win a championship with local kids,'' Uebelhardt said.

``Local kids can be successful.''

Mosier sure has been. He had 212 yards by halftime, the same total he had in last week's loss to Westlake.  Valley's defense was on the field all night.

``They wanted to get me 2,000, but we played smart,'' said Mosier, who finished 94 yards shy. ``We didn't want to run up the score.''

Mosier, who is 5-foot-8 and 180 pounds, has had an incredible season and it's not over yet. Playoffs begin next week. Mosier has no scholarship offers from any schools. When asked if he was disappointed on Wednesday - the first day of the early signing period - Mosier admitted he didn't even know about it.

Simi Valley running back Devin Kelley certainly knows about Mosier.

The two work out together during the offseason. Kelley had 121 yards on 18 carries and scored once. But it was Simi Valley's offense, which scored 57 points last week against Calabasas, that stalled.

``Once those touchdowns started happening, guys' heads started going down,'' Kelley said. ``People said, `This is stupid.' ''
