It was Royal's fourth straight win and keeps the pressure on first-place Camarillo, still a half-game ahead in the league standings.

Byer (3-2) went the distance, scattering four hits, striking out three and walking two.

``I thought I did pretty good,'' Byer said. ``I kept the ball down and I kept the ball away from their big hitters. Plus, we played pretty solid defense.''

Only three of Agoura's outs were hit beyond the infield.

He had good movement on his pitches, and he mixed it up real good.''

Royal (9-6, 5-1) scored all of its runs in the first four innings. Matt Rainer hit two doubles and Danny Daugherty was 2 for 2 with an RBI RBI

Agoura (7-9, 2-4) - losers of five straight - avoided a shutout when Matt Dianella drove in Mike Falco with two outs in the seventh.

``We were flat,'' Beck said. ``The key to our success is our offense, but today our bats went to sleep. That happens sometimes. We just weren't aggressive.''

Three errors, all leading to Royal runs, did not help Agoura's cause.

Royal coach Dan Maye felt the key was getting ahead early.

``It was nice to jump ahead,'' Maye said. ``That set the tone. Once we got the lead, Byer controlled the game.''

Catcher Scott Goldfarb thought Byer, who showed flashes of brilliance with an 11-1 American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. ``He was great,'' Goldfarb said. ``He had a lot of movement on his pitches, and he was really hitting his spots. He kept his curveball low, so they never got good barrel on the ball.''
