The Ducks, who had only two shorthanded goals all season, took advantage of Calgary's defensive vulnerability when the Flames had a man advantage.

When the Flames were on a power play, they were extremely slow to get back on defense, allowing Kariya, Sacco and Rucchin to score goals. That gave the Flames an NHL-high 11 shorthanded goals-against.

Kariya scored first, breaking down the left wing, then slicing across the crease, faking a shot, then flipping the puck under goalie Kidd's glove at 9:08 of the first period.

Sacco made it 2-0 with 53 seconds remaining in the first, then added his shorthanded goal at 1:58 of the second, beating Kidd on breakaways both times.

Rucchin stretched the lead to 4-0 with his shorthanded goal later in the second period, with Kariya, behind the net, feeding him a pass on the left point.

Dmitri Mironov scored early in the third period, Kariya got his 12th goal midway through the period, then Selanne ended the scoring at 1:10.

Calgary's Ronnie Stern drew a roughing penalty and a 10-minute misconduct for shoving linesman Shane Heyer in the third period after Heyer broke up a scuffle between Stern and J.F. Jomphe.

The Flames' Jamie Allison went out in the first period with a severe cut under his left eye when he was driven into the boards by Ted Drury. Drury received a five-minute major, leading to the Ducks' first shorthanded goal. Allison did not return to the game.

Florida 3, Chicago 1: Scott Mellanby scored two power-play goals and set up a late insurance score as the Panthers ended a four-game road losing streak by beating Blackhawks in Chicago.
