Chaminade High School's Ryan Hamill won the home-run derby at the Gael Classic baseball tournament Friday in Las Vegas, hitting four home runs to beat 16 other players.

The closest players to Hamill, who has signed with Nevada Las Vegas, had two home runs.

Gael Classic games involving area teams included:

Kennedy 15, Castle (Hawaii) 0: Wes Crown threw five innings with five strikeouts and Jon Garland went 3 for 3 with five RBI and three runs scored in the Cougars' (9-4) win.

Highland 9, Birmingham 7: Junior Jon Anello went 4 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBI and Shaun Gerstl had two hits in the Bulldogs' (3-8) win over the Braves. Henry Salas doubled and tripled for Birmingham. Anello also homered in Highland's 6-4 loss to Valley of Las Vegas.

Chatsworth 3, Rancho 2: David Sark, Bryan Gant, Nathan Frost and Tim Weigand doubled for the Chancellors (7-3) who broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the seventh to make a winner of reliever Greg Wold (1-2).

Pacific League

Crescenta Valley 5, Glendale 3: Luke Peterson went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Falcons (4-3, 3-0) in their first game against former coach Tony Zarrillo, whose Dynamiters (6-2, 1-2) got two hits from Jon Walton.

Prep softball

La Canada 4, South Pasadena 3: Ty Peterson's eighth-inning single drove in Lauren Herman, who doubled to lead off the inning for the Spartans (7-5, 3-0) in a Rio Hondo League game.

College baseball

Mission 23, Fullerton 6: Eli Albertson and Jerry Delgado had four hits each for the Free Spirit (14-15), Delgado driving in four runs while Albertson had three RBI and scored twice in the Fullerton tournament victory.

Mt. San Jacinto 4, Valley 2: Erick Buitrago (0-4) allowed just three hits, while yielding four unearned runs in 7-1/3 innings as the Monarchs (2-24-3) lost in the Fullerton tournament. Jaime Dorado was 2 for 4 for Valley.

Pepperdine 11-7, San Francisco 3-4: Rob Reid went 5 for 8 with two doubles a home run and four RBI, David Matranga went 3 for 8 with a home run and four RBI and Mark Lopez went 4 for 6 as the Waves (19-15, 7-0) swept the Dons (14-18, 2-5) in a West Coast Conference doubleheader at Malibu.

UCLA 9, California 0: Eric Valent, Chad Matoian and former Kennedy High School star Aldo Pinto had three hits apiece, Eric Byrnes and Nick Theodorou added two hits each and Peter Zamora clubbed his 12th home run of the season as the Bruins (27-6-1, 7-1) totaled 16 hits in a Pacific-10 Conference win over the Bears (13-22, 1-13) at UCLA.

USC 15, Arizona St. 4: Morgan Ensberg had three hits to lead the Trojans (27-10, 10-7) past the Sun Devils (21-14, 7-10) in a Pac-10 Conference game at Tempe, Ariz.

Mark Mirizzi, Wes Rachels and Robb Gorr added two hits each for USC, which outhit the Sun Devils 17-13. Jason Brown and Mirizzi homered for the Trojans.

Usc's Seth Etherton got the win, improving to 5-1. ASU starter Phil Lowery (2-2) took the loss.

College volleyball

UCLA 3, Brigham Young 2: The Bruins (16-3, 12-2), behind Paul Nihipali's 23 kills and 21 digs, moved into first place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a 15-9, 4-15, 10-15, 15-10, 18-16 come-from-behind win over the Cougars (16-3, 12-3) in Provo, Utah.

College tennis

No. 3 UCLA 9, Washington 0: The Bruins' Kati Kocsis defeated Katherine Costain 6-4, 6-3 in No. 1 singles as UCLA (10-3, 5-1) posted its seventh consecutive win by defeating Washington (8-8, 1-2) in a Pac-10 Conference match in Westwood.
