Joe Juneau had his second career hat trick and backup goalie Olaf Kolzig stopped 39 shots as the Washington Capitals kept the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins winless on the road Friday night with a 4-2 victory in Landover, Md.

Juneau had two power-play goals and a short-handed score to help the Capitals win for the fourth time in five games after a 1-5 start. He had only two goals in his first 10 games - both on the power play.

Jaromir Jagr and Mario Lemieux had power-play goals for the Penguins, who fell to 0-8 on the road and 2-9 overall, matching the 1983-84 team for worst start in franchise history. Pittsburgh has lost four straight since beating the Capitals 2-1 on Oct. 19.

Mighty Ducks 4, San Jose 3: Teemu Selanne completed his 11th career hat trick with 4:44 left in the third period as the Ducks ended an eight-game losing streak with a victory over the Sharks in Anaheim.

Al Iafrate beat Ducks goaltender Guy Hebert from the red line with the first shot of the game, then scored on a power play late in the second period, giving San Jose a 3-2 lead.

Chicago 3, Dallas 2: Jeff Shantz scored his first goal of the season with 3:12 left in overtime to send the Blackhawks past the Stars in Dallas.

Jere Lehtinen scored the tying goal for the Stars with 13:06 play and goaltender Andy Moog kept the Stars close with another strong performance, stopping 36 shots.

But Shantz gave the Blackhawks the victory, firing a 15-footer past Moog to end a four-game winless streak for the Blackhawks.

Chicago goaltender Eddie Belfour also was sharp, stopping 27 shots.

Detroit 2, Ottawa 2: Radek Bonk and Alexandre Daigle scored third-period goals as the Senators erased a two-goal deficit to tie the Red wings in Kanata, Ontario. Ottawa (3-3-5) is undefeated in five games at the Corel Centre this season.

The Red Wings (7-4-2) remained unbeaten in seven games.

Buffalo 4, St. Louis 2: Barrie Moore and Curtis Brown scored third-period goals and Dominik Hasek stopped 33 shots to lead the Sabres over the host Blues.

The Blues lost their fourth straight, while the Sabres snapped a two-game losing streak.

Brian Noonan and Harry York each scored for the Blues.

Vancouver 5, Edmonton 4: Esa Tikkanen's second goal of the game, at 42 seconds of overtime, gave the Canucks a comeback victory over the Oilers in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tikkanen circled around the Edmonton net and banked the puck off defenseman Bryan Marchment's skate just beyond the reach of goaltender Curtis Joseph. The goal was Tikkanen's third of the season.

Phoenix 3, Calgary 2:Jeremy Roenick's first goal of the season, with 52 seconds left in overtime, gave the visiting Coyotes the victory.

Roenick intercepted an errant clearing pass by Theoren Fleury and beat goaltender Rick Tabaracci with a high wrist shot.
