Tout Charmant allowed trainer Ron McAnally Ronald L. McAnally (born July 11, 1932, in Covington, Kentucky) is an American Hall of Fame trainer in Thoroughbred horse racing. Ridden by Chris McCarron Christopher John "Chris" McCarron (b. March 27 1955, Boston, Massachusetts) is an American thoroughbred horse racing Hall of Fame retired jockey.

He was introduced to the sport of thoroughbred racing by his older brother, jockey Gregg McCarron.

``I didn't realize it until they announced it,'' McAnally, 69, said of his feat. ``At least I lived long enough to enjoy it.''

The victory also broke a drought for Tout Charmant. McAnally's entry had not won since the Grade I Matriarch at Hollywood Park on Nov. 26, 2000, and was facing retirement if she didn't turn around her fortunes.

``It meant she would stay racing this year,'' the trainer said. ``It means a lot to both of us. She is a good filly. She tries all the time.''

Tout Charmant stalked the pace-setter Dancingonice to the three-quarter pole before making her move down the stretch.

``I had an opportunity to put her in the clear and just before she turned on the backside, I moved out off the fence,'' said McCarron, whose mount returned $7.00, $3.80 and $3.40. ``When she got to the clear, it was like a European horse; she just sailed out and took off with me.

``I thought it was a bit premature. But she knew what she was doing and I am glad I didn't get in her way.''
