ROUNDUP: RIO MESA CAN'T FIND WAY TO STOP POWERFUL DOS PUEBLOS.

Byline: Daily News

Rio Mesa High just couldn't find a way to stop Dos Pueblos.

The Chargers, ranked No. 2 in Southern Section Division IV, rolled up 527 yards to overwhelm the Spartans 55-12 in a nonleague game Friday night at Rio Mesa.

Quarterback Shane Lopes completed 12 of 19 passes for 328 yards and five touchdowns, as nearly all of Dos Pueblos' (7-0) drives featured a play of 50 yards or longer.

Rio Mesa (4-3) gained 208 yards but Spartans quarterback Brian DiDimizio struggled; he completed only five of 17 passes for 28 yards and was intercepted twice.

A bright spot for Rio Mesa was the punting of Chris Davis Chris Davis is the name of a couple of people:

--Camarillo 14, Channel Islands 7: Camarillo scored all its points in the fourth, rallying past visiting Channel Islands in a Pacific League game.

The winning score came with 26 seconds remaining in the game when quarterback Garrett Barlow, under pressure, rolled right and found wide receiver Travis Sutton in the end zone.

``As I rolled, I looked for (Andrew) Berkovich; it was a play I messed up earlier when he was open,'' said Barlow. ``This time, they had three guys on Berko so I kept rolling and (Sutton) broke inside.''

Channel Islands (3-4, 0-2) scored on the game's opening drive. However, Camarillo's defense, which allowed a season-high 33 points in a loss to Rio Mesa last week, shut down the Raiders behind 11 tackles each by linebackers Tyler Varnum and Brent Cantrell.

Camarillo (3-2-2, 1-1) tied the game early in the fourth quarter on a 13- yard pass from Barlow to Brad Boyer, who had eight catches for 107 yards.
