ROUNDUP: PEPPERDINE STREAK HITS 9.

Byline: Daily News

Pepperdine is off to its best start since 1972, improving to 9-0 after a 5-4 win over Fresno State on Friday in a nonconference game at Pepperdine.

Freshman shortstop Ton Garcia's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning scored Jeremy White from third to give the Waves the win.

For a while, it looked as if Pepperdine's unbeaten streak would be a memory as starting pitcher Noun 1. starting pitcher - (baseball) a pitcher who starts in a baseball game

Brad Tucker was tapped for four runs on nine hits in seven innings, leaving with the Waves down 4-2. But Garcia led the Waves' comeback when his two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 4-4.

Matadors routed, fall below .500: Starting pitcher Tim Bell (2-3) was rocked for five runs on 10 hits in 4-2/3 innings as Cal State Northridge dropped a 10-1 decision to Washington in a nonconference game at Northridge. Offensively, the Matadors (8-9) were stagnant, managing just three singles. Washington improves to 4-0.
