ROUNDUP: MOULDEN WINS IT FOR C.V.

Melinda Moulden singled home Leslie Linnemeyer in the bottom of the third inning to give Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  (21-4) a 1-0 victory over Highland (17-11) in a Southern Section Division I wild-card softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  game Wednesday at Montrose Park.

Moulden, the only player with two hits in the game, also struck out nine in a three-hitter to take the pitching win.

Highland's biggest scoring threat came in the sixth inning, when the Bulldogs left the bases loaded. Highland pitcher Michelle Wintermute allowed five hits in the loss.

In other area wild-card play, Palmdale edged Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. The park covers 4,210 acres (17 km²) of land, making it one of the largest urban parks in North America.  on Tuesday to upset teammate Julie Park (169) in the girls' championship on the Harding and Wilson courses.

Park, who won the City girls' title last year as a freshman, finished at 169. Ashley Stewart of Chatsworth and Stacy Law of Grant both shot 197 to tie for third and claim the final two berths in the June 3 CIF/SCGA championship at SCGA SCGA Southern California Golf Association
