``He could start (riding regularly) as early as Jan.17, if the right opportunity comes along,'' said Fogelsonger's agent, Michelle Barsotti. ``If not, he'll start riding a full schedule by Jan. 22.''

--One more day: Because jockey Alex Solis rode two designated races last Saturday while under a three-day suspension, he is required to serve one more day (Jan. 14) on the bench, according to the Santa Anita stewards.

 Native Desert, who retired last month at the age of 10, is enjoying himself at trainer Juan Garcia's ranch in Tijuana, Mexico.
